Chapter 12 - Sly

Sly stared at Chase, and looked around at all of the commotion, seeing the werewolves acting up. She didn’t want to think about it, she had tried to push away the thoughts that were coming to her mind. But now Chase was telling her to fix it. He had come to the same conclusion that had been stirring in her mind. She had something to do with the moonstone and its effects on the werewolves.

“I didn’t do anything to it,” Sly began, shaking her head. “I just passed out.”

“I’m not saying you did,” said Chase, looking back at Caspian. He was a hunter who was an expert at magic. “Is there a chance that he lured you out and then did something to it?”

Sly paused, remembering the sounds she had heard. The footsteps, the heartbeat. Someone had been there, but she had never seen them. She couldn’t be sure what happened, or why she had passed out. It was all a blur, but it had happened. Emma rushed at Chase from behind and Sly reacted quickly, pulling Chase out of her path.

Hunt ran after her, pulling a length of rope he wanted to use to tie her down. It was absolute chaos, with the dragons trying to put down the werewolves, and Levi fighting Caspian, while Adebayo and Bingwen faced off against the spider creature.

“It’s possible,” Sly confessed. “I don’t know why I passed out, but if the moonstone is doing this, then there could be something else at play.”

Chase nodded. “Then let’s end this. We need to get it far away, but neither I nor Lenna can take it off of her. I need you to try, okay?”

Sly nodded and followed him. She was done being a pawn, she was going to do whatever it took to fix her mistake. Maybe it was the hunter who had done something to make her act the way she had. But now, she was going to change that. If she got the moonstone away, maybe the werewolves would be fine, and they would be able to take him down. She just had to do her part.

They got to Lenna and saw her propped against a tree, her wounds slowly healing. She groaned, barely conscious from the pain of the venom. Sly had seen Chase save her just in time, and was so glad she was okay. Without a word from Chase, Sly reached out for the necklace and grabbed the pendant.

Instantly, a bright light shone in her hand and began to burn, causing her to let go for a moment. “That’s magic, he did something to it.”

Chase shook his head. “Dammit. I have to get Bingwen, stay here with her, and I’ll get him to come take it off.”

“No!” Sly yelled at him. “No, I can do this.”

Sly wrapped her hand around it again and began to pull. She felt every nerve ending in her hand come alive as she pulled at it, trying to cut it loose. She let out a loud scream as she did, using all of her strength.
